Prepare for your IVF appointment

Start with the information you already have. Separate questions for your clinician, confirmations from the clinic and your own travel arrangements. This is a communication checklist; required tests and validity periods come from the treating clinic.

A record pack your clinician can review

01

A one-page appointment summary

Record your goal, diagnoses and treatment timeline, current medicines and known allergies. Label unconfirmed issues as questions.

02

Existing test reports

Keep names, dates, units and reference ranges visible. Ask whether translations, repeat testing or additional records are needed.

03

Previous IVF records

Request available stimulation, egg collection, fertilisation, embryo development, transfer and storage records. Do not guess missing results.

04

Storage and genetic records

If relevant, list the storage clinic and available embryo or genetic reports. The receiving team determines documentation and assessment requirements.

Plan around confirmed milestones

  1. Before booking

Confirm the treating institution, language, appointment format, required records and consultation or interpretation fees.

  2. At the consultation

Ask what is known, what remains uncertain and which options and risks apply. Request or prepare a written record afterwards.

  3. Before paying

Check the quote, payee, currency, validity, payment milestones and cancellation policy. Obtain written confirmation of verbal commitments.

  4. Before travelling

Ask the clinic to confirm expected attendance dates, stages requiring a stay and possible delays. Treat estimates as provisional.

  5. Before leaving the clinic

Confirm report delivery, medicine instructions, urgent contacts, follow-up responsibility and the next discussion. Ask the clinician when travel is appropriate.

A written-quote request you can adapt

Use this as a starting point, then adjust it to the plan proposed by your clinician.

Please itemize the proposed plan: consultations and tests, medication, egg collection and anaesthesia, laboratory procedures, genetic testing if applicable, freezing and storage, embryo transfer and follow-up. Please state the currency, quote validity, exclusions, triggers for additional charges, and cancellation or postponement terms.

Common preparation questions

Must I complete every test before contacting a clinic?

Start with existing records. Ask the receiving clinic which additional tests are needed, when to do them and which reports it accepts.

Can everything be completed in one trip?

This cannot be promised in advance. Ask for the expected visits and stays under your plan, including changes due to testing, frozen transfers or delays.

Where do I start if I only need embryo transport?

Contact both laboratories first. Confirm acceptance and documentation before scheduling the carrier and related travel.

Costs, clinical questions and cross-border arrangements

Each guide addresses a distinct question. When comparing destinations, check the conditions relevant to your own treatment and circumstances.

What FS can help you organize

You can discuss appointment goals, document lists, questions about quotes and cross-border coordination with an adviser. The treating medical team determines tests, prescriptions and treatment schedules. Legal eligibility requires a separate review of your circumstances and destination.

For an initial discussion, share your region, treatment stage and main question. Confirm the recipient and secure transfer method before providing medical records.
